Training

At Pragmatic Academy our approach to training is one that uses a blend of the Andragogy Theory of Adult Learning and Mezirow’s Transformative Learning Theory.

According to Malcolm Knowles, andragogy is the art and science of adult learning. This learning theory makes the assumptions that:

Transformative Learning Theory is a theory of learning that focuses on adult education and young adult learning. It focuses on helping learners develop self-awareness and self-knowledge. This means that learners must learn to understand themselves, and then use this knowledge to improve their performance.

The idea is that learners who are getting new information are also evaluating their past ideas and understanding and are shifting their worldview as they obtain new information and through critical reflection. It goes beyond simply acquiring knowledge and dives into the way that learners find meaning in their lives and understanding. This kind of learning experience involves a fundamental change in our perceptions – learners start to question all the things they knew or thought before and examine things from new perspectives in order to make room for new insights and information.

“You have to perform at a consistently higher level than others. That’s the mark of a true professional.”
